Come and Rest
Scripture: Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 KJV
Jesus did not wait for us to get our lives in order before He invited us to come. He spoke these words to people who were tired, worn down by expectations, and carrying more than they were ever meant to hold. His invitation was simple: come as you are, and bring the weight with you.
Most of us know what it feels like to keep going on empty. We fill our calendars, answer every need, and tell ourselves we will rest once things settle down. Somehow, things rarely settle. Jesus offers a different kind of rest: not an escape from life, but a place to set our burdens down right in the middle of it.
Coming to Him does not require the right words. Sometimes it looks like a quiet moment in the car before we walk into work, or a whispered “I can’t carry this alone” late at night. He is not grading how well we pray. He is simply glad we came.
This week, let’s begin by accepting His invitation. Whatever we have been holding together by our own strength, we can place in His hands today. He never asked us to carry it alone, and He isn’t about to start now.
Prayer
Father, I come to You tired and carrying more than I can manage. Thank You for inviting me just as I am. Teach me to lay my burdens down before You and to receive the rest You so freely give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
