Growing Up Together in Christ

Scripture: Colossians 1:28

“Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 1:28 KJV

Paul’s whole ministry had one aim: to help people grow up in Christ. He told the believers in Colossae that he preached Jesus, warned and taught with wisdom, and did all of it so that each person might become mature in Him. The word “perfect” here doesn’t mean flawless. It means complete, whole, fully grown.

Growth rarely happens in isolation. Notice how often Paul says “every man”, every person, no one left out. God places us among others so we can help one another along. Sometimes that looks like encouragement, sometimes like an honest word that’s hard to hear, and sometimes simply like sharing what we’ve learned on the road.

Jesus stands at the center of it all. Paul didn’t hand out self-improvement tips or a list of rules. He pointed people to Christ, trusting that the better they knew Him, the more they would become like Him. Real maturity has less to do with trying harder and more to do with staying close.

This week, we might pause to remember the people who have helped us grow, thank God for them, and maybe send one of them a note. Then we can ask Him to show us someone to walk alongside, offering the same patient care we’ve received.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the people who have taught and encouraged me in my faith. Keep me growing in You, and make me a faithful companion to others who are learning to follow You. Bring each of us to wholeness in You. Amen.
