Handing Over the Weight
Scripture: 1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Some cares we carry so long that we forget how heavy they are. They become part of how we move through the day — a tightness in the chest, a low hum of concern beneath everything else. Peter invites us to do something bold with those cares: hand them over.
The word “cast” suggests a deliberate throw, not a reluctant set-down we pick right back up. It is a decision to let God hold what we have been holding. And the reason we can do it is wonderfully simple: He cares for us.
Sometimes we hesitate because our concerns feel too small to bother God with, or too big to believe He could handle. But Peter says “all.” The bill, the diagnosis, the child who has stopped calling, the worry we feel silly for having — none of it sits outside His concern.
It may help to name our cares out loud or write them down, then offer them to God one by one. Some of them we may need to give back to Him again tomorrow. That isn’t failure; it’s how trust is learned. He never tires of receiving what we bring.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You care for me in every detail of my life. I give You the worries I have been holding — the ones I’ve spoken and the ones I’ve kept hidden. Help me trust You enough to leave them in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
