Finding Our Joy in Him
“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
Psalm 37:4
Encouragement
David wrote Psalm 37 as an older man, looking back on a long life. He was speaking to people who were upset that dishonest folks seemed to get ahead. His counsel was simple: don’t fret. Trust the Lord, do good, and delight in Him. That word “delight” is warm, the kind of gladness we feel around someone we love. As our joy in God grows, our desires begin to change as well. We start wanting what He wants, and He is glad to give it. By Friday, we may be tired and quietly comparing our lives with others’. Instead, we can take a few unhurried minutes to enjoy God’s company and let Him shape what our hearts long for.
Something to Ponder
What helps us simply enjoy God, and how might we make room for that this weekend?
Prayer
Lord, I want to delight in You, not just ask things of You. Quiet my fretting and my comparing. Shape the desires of my heart until they look like Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
