First Things First

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Matthew 6:33

Encouragement

Jesus said these words on a hillside to ordinary people who worried about food, clothes, and tomorrow. He didn’t scold them for having needs. He pointed to the birds that are fed and the lilies that are dressed, and reminded them that our Father knows what we need before we ask. Then He gave them a different place to start: seek His kingdom first, and the rest will be added. That isn’t a promise that life gets easy. It’s an invitation to let God set the order of our days. As a new week begins, we can hand Him the first part of it and trust Him with everything that follows.

Something to Ponder

What would it look like for us to put God’s kingdom first in one ordinary part of this week?

Prayer

Father, You know what I need before I ask. Help me seek You first this week, before the worries and the to-do lists. Settle my anxious heart, and teach me to trust You with the rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
