Light and Shelter
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Psalm 84:11
Encouragement
Psalm 84 was written by someone who longed for God’s house so deeply that even the sparrows nesting near the altar seemed fortunate. On the road to worship, the writer passes through dry valleys and finds springs along the way. Then comes this picture of who God is: a sun to warm and light the path, and a shield to cover us when danger comes. He gives grace for today and glory at the end, and He doesn’t hold back what is truly good from those who walk with Him. Monday can feel like the start of a long, dry stretch. God goes with us through it, giving light where we need to see and cover where we need protecting.
Something to Ponder
Do we need God’s light or His shelter more this week, and can we ask Him for it plainly?
Prayer
Lord, You are my sun and my shield. Light my way through this week, and cover me where I’m weak. Help me trust that You won’t hold back anything that’s truly good for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
