Mercy That Knows Our Limits

“For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.”
Isaiah 57:16

Encouragement

Just before this verse, God describes Himself as the high and holy One who lives forever, and yet He chooses to dwell with those who are crushed and humble in spirit. Then He tells us why His anger doesn’t last. If He kept up His case against us forever, the very souls He made would give way under it. God knows how frail we are. His correction is real, but it isn’t endless, and it always aims at healing. We can sometimes live as though God is still frowning over something we confessed long ago. We don’t have to. The One who made us knows our limits, and He would rather revive us than wear us down.

Something to Ponder

Is there something we’ve already confessed that we still carry as if God were holding it against us?

Prayer

Father, thank You that Your anger doesn’t last forever and that You know how much I can bear. Where I feel crushed, revive me. Help me receive Your mercy instead of hiding from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
