Grace Enough for Today
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV
Paul had been given a “thorn in the flesh”, something painful he never fully explains. Three times he pleaded with the Lord to take it away. The answer he received wasn’t the one he hoped for, but it was one he carried for the rest of his life.
“My grace is sufficient for thee.” Notice the tense. Jesus doesn’t say His grace will be enough someday, once the trouble has passed. He says it is enough, right now, in the middle of it. Grace isn’t only the gift that saves us; it’s the daily strength that holds us up.
We tend to hide our weak places. We’d rather show God and others the parts of us that seem capable. Paul learned to do the opposite. He chose to speak gladly of his weaknesses, because those were the very places where Christ’s power came to rest on him. Weakness, handed to God, becomes room for His strength.
Maybe there’s something we’ve asked God to remove, and it’s still here. That can be discouraging. Rather than measuring our own strength this morning, we can bring that weakness to Him and ask for enough grace for this one day. Tomorrow’s grace will arrive with tomorrow.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You know the thorn I’ve asked You to take away. If it stays, let Your grace be enough for me. Rest Your power on the weak places in my life, and teach me to lean on You instead of on myself. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
